The Pink Rag

After my last post, where I told you she said that she had been "sniffing her pink rag" instead of practicing for graduation, I thought it would be fun to find pictures of Riley with her pink rag.

This first picture was in the last post...the pink rag is tucked under her chin. Whenever she is in broad daylight, the pink rag must be hidden, not because she is embarrassed, but because, "the sun makes it smell different." It stanks...it can't get much worse.

This is one of my favorite pictures. I love the expression on her face...and she's got the pink rag in her left hand.

And here we have the pink rag in the family photo...why would we not let her hold it? This is real life. Except in real life there aren't many orange upholstered chairs sitting in the middle of a jogging path. What a rare find that was...

And here we have the pink rag and a meltdown; an oxy-moronic one at that. Note the shirt...

Next, we have the pink rag bringing her comfort after her big sister has used her as a dress-up doll, and brushed the knots out of her hair

Partay pink rag (it's on the floor in the background). She needed her hands free to throw peace signs. She's looking good in her garbage bag tunic, as well.

Pink rag goes to the shore on holiday...

An evening with pink rag...

Pink rag in a pink papasan...

Pink rag and a snack bar on the changing table. What you don't see in this pic is big sister with a clothes pin on her nose, while she changes a stinky diaper. She would hurt me if I posted it...

Field trip to the zoo...it's on the bench. And wow, it's really pink and really clean here. Now it's kind of a nasty shade of gray.

Watching Daddy fix the fridge...

This last one is one of the earliest photos with pink rag...this was about the time it went from just a nite nite thing, to an all day long thing. And, again, look how clean it is!

The pink rag is the equivalent of a blankie for Riley. It started when she was about 5 months old, when I noticed she fell asleep faster and slept better when something soft was touching her nose. I think it was related to the fact that she was nursing, but I digress. Anyway, I was afraid to let her sleep with a blanket for obvious reasons, so I had the genius idea to use a wash rag. Had I known it was going to take, and last this long, I would have called it something fancier than "pink rag."

At first she would use any color or design, but eventually she fixated on the pink ones. We are down to two of them, and it wouldn't matter if I could find more because a new one wouldn't have the stench these do. We do on occasion misplace them, and she will use another color, but not gladly. Anyway, it now goes where she goes, and stays where she stays. At preschool she could make it until about 11:15 before she "needed to sniff her pink rag." What are we going to do when she gets to kindergarten?
